A joyful speed-doodling game for all ages.
The goal with this activity is to let go, trust your gut and enjoy the imperfection that comes from paper, pencils and limited time. A creative ice breaker well-suited for parties and family events – try this enjoyable way to practice collaborative curiosity and quick decision-making.
Materials needed:
Assorted pens/pencils
5-10 pieces of white or colored paper
Scissors
Optional add-ons:
Glue stick
Large paper
Preparation:
Stack 5-10 papers together and cut out random shapes as tightly as you can. This is so you will end up with several copies of the same shape.
Shuffle and pace the shapes into a container so they are randomly assorted.
Assemble a pile of pens and pencils.
Activity Directions:
Break into groups of 1-4 people.
Let everyone pick out a single shape from the pile. Challenge them to spend 10 seconds observing the shape, then 30-45 seconds drawing something on it. Trust your first idea, and don't spend time trying to achieve perfection. The goofier the drawing, the better!
Repeat for 2-3 drawing rounds.
Place all of the drawings in the center of the table and try to group the drawings together so they form scenes. For instance, the cat with the open mouth might be eating a dancing gold fish.
For the next drawing, see what inspires you. Is a scene missing something? Do you see a different way to use the same shape as someone else?
Optionally: Start sticking various scenes to a large piece of paper with glue, to create a blobtastic collage!
Activity Variation:
Give everyone the same shape every turn, and draw in secret, and then compare what you come up with!
