Improv paper shape collage!

Cut some paper shapes out, play around with how you can place them on the page, and let yourself decide where you're going along the way!

I suggest spending 30 min to an hour on this activity.

Materials needed:

Colorful paper

Scissors

Glue sticks

Drawing tools (markers and colored pencils recommended)

Set-up:

  1. Place the materials on your work surface.

  2. Cut out a variety of shapes in different colors.

  3. Perhaps make an example or two to show different ways to make a collage.

Directions:

  1. Select some pre-made shapes, cut out their own, or a combination of both!

  2. Play around with how they might be placed on a background sheet. See what they might make you think of. You could do this with a buddy too!

  3. Glue the shapes into place.

  4. Begin to draw on and around the paper shapes to make your collage come to life.

  5. If you want to add more paper shapes, do so!

  6. Keep adding details as you like. Try using a variety of drawing tools.

Collaborative variation on this activity:

Use poster size paper as your backdrop and have everyone attach shapes and draw together. You can either take turns or go all at once.

It works best if you decide on a theme before you start! (The zoo, outer space, wild party, fashion show... or something else!)
